- 1 package of soft silken tofu
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of minced parsley
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons of salt or to taste
- 5 tablespoons of soy bean oil
I’m so excited today because we are going to make a delicious tofu ranch dressing. It’s super easy to make and it’s a lot less expensive than buying salad dressings at the grocery store. It’s also a great way to introduce protein into the salad. Now before we begin even making this dressing we do need to talk about the different kinds of tofu. The first is what we call water-packed tofu and this is the tofu you’re going to use for different recipes where you want the tofu diced up or cut into various different shapes. The other kind of tofu is what we call silken tofu and tofu like this is shelf stable until you open it. This is the tofu that you want to use any time you’re going to puree up the tofu like for making this delicious salad dressing.
So this is how we do it. I’m going to start with a packet of that soft silken tofu and just drop it right into the blender. Then in goes a bunch of different ingredients. I’ll continue by putting in one teaspoon of onion powder, one teaspoon of garlic powder, one teaspoon of ground black pepper, one teaspoon of minced parsley, two tablespoons of lemon juice, and some salt. Next, in goes five tablespoons of soy bean oil. The vegetable oil you buy at the store is almost always soybean oil. That’s really it because all that’s left to do is simply puree this up until it is nice and smooth. When it’s all done pureeing take a look at the consistency if your tofu ranch dressing and if it’s too thick all you have to do is just add a little bit of water into it until you’ve reached your desired consistency. When this is done there is a bunch of things you can do with it. For instance, I could pour some of it into a dipping bowl and add it to a nice platter of cut veggies and have a lovely dish to add to the array of other food at a party or gathering. Of course salad dressing goes on salad so we could make up a yummy fresh salad and just pour it over top of that and toss it up. There are even lots of other flavor ideas that you can use to make different salad dressings. For example if you go to the grocery store you can buy those little packets of spices and flavors for salad dressings and simply put those in. You could even just add in a mixture of your own herbs and spices or maybe even a little chipotle pepper to give it some heat. You really can’t go wrong with this salad dressing. It will make your salads even more healthy and nutritious then you thought possible. So try it out sometime and you may never go back to the regular store bought dressings.
